I’m the overcast sky, I’m the orange ball
At least one night a week I am nothing at all
I’m the title i’m the deed I’m the red brick wall
I’m the house that I grew up in I’m the tiled kitchen floor
I am lost, I am lonely in a shopping mall
But my heart gets pumping when I hear you call
The old man once told me I’d be six feet tall
I’m still waiting on that one inch more
You’re my truth, you’re my light, you’re my wonderwall
I get knocked down, but I get up again and THEN I fall
Through corruption, through insanity, throw me a ball
I’m defiant but I'm also just a brick in the wall
I learned to walk before I could crawl
I’m a self-fulfilling prophecy and ripe for a fall
I practice every day on my way to the wall
This is how you get to Carnegie Hall
I’m carol Kaye I’m Brian Eno, I am Lou Reed’s drawl (this is how you get to Carnegie Hall)
I won’t stop until I take all my meals through a straw (this is how you get to Carnegie Hall)
I’m my father's lungs, I’m his broken fall (this is how you get to Carnegie Hall)
I’m his second heart attack and nothing more (this is how you getto Carnegie Hall)
My father told me I’d be six feet tall (this is how you get to Carnegie Hall)
I’m still waiting on that one inch more (this is how you get to Carnegie Hall)

Donated To Silence

I can't sleep when I'm stressed, I can't think when I'm happy: paralysed by the everyday, but sometimes things just go away
I can't deal with the past. The future's got me losing my hair; for my heart I take an aspirin every day, but sometimes things just go away
I'm not alone in my angst, but academia's too far out of reach and it's too late for me to go back to school anyway, and finally everything goes away
No-one feels bad anymore! We exist in a state of great bliss! Because deep down we know we deserve it, and it doesn't get better than this!

Sorry Party

somewhere someone's always telling me what to do
the clouds are looking slate-like, blue and grey
i can see the sign from two blocks away; snowfall wouldn't surprise me today
the mission isn't over until the final fall -- let's take this sorry party to the wall
let's take this sorry party where no one's gone before, we'll crowd up all the echoing streets
i'll take my time, apologise, and stumble to my feet
my own sorry party's in defeat
as i face the blizzard may i never come to harm
when every night i return into your arms
i can see the sign from two blocks, alright
never seems to help me sleep at night
i'll get my coat, forget my hat and fall down in the street
my own sorry party's in defeat
in the face of all the evidence i believe i'm safe from harm
when every night i return into your arms
and me, i'm gonna tell you one thing even though i know you're gonna hear another
but i don't care
i don't care
since when did you become the keeper of your brother?
you're waiting for me there when i walk in the bar alone
you're waiting for me when i get home
god. dammit. you're there, and i cannot get enough
but if i'm very lucky you're gone when i wake up

Forgivenesslessness

No, we're doing OK, you and I. Yeah, you can stay, that's fine.
No, there's nothing to forgive, unless you think I should forgive myself.
No, I've just got something in my eye. Yeah, there's no "probably", you were right.
(I went out walking on a Sunday afternoon in autumn; wolves and bears, I'm not afraid - their allegiances, I bought 'em. Not concerned with redemption, not concerned with wrong and right. The morning's just a dull invention as I walk into the night)
I navigate by the stars; when it's cloudy I'm tuned to slight changing altitudes
No longer concerned with what was, when the night air moves me (one day to conclude me)

The Peregrine Effect Chicago, Illinois
Why I don't have a band.
Sad, angry guitar songs; the happier ones are usually about
death.
All recordings are a reluctant compromise; I want to sing directly to your face in a sweaty basement.
