Donated To Silence

from Illusions & Iterations by The Peregrine Effect

/

about

This is the first song that I wrote specifically for this Peregrine Effect project - instead of trying to write songs with a consistent subject matter, I assembled a collage of different ideas to create a mood. The first verses were written in a practice room in Astoria, Queens. The middle instrumental breakdown has been kicking around in my repertoire for at least fifteen years. The coda was written on a humid afternoon walking through Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn

lyrics

I can't sleep when I'm stressed, I can't think when I'm happy: paralysed by the everyday, but sometimes things just go away

I can't deal with the past. The future's got me losing my hair; for my heart I take an aspirin every day, but sometimes things just go away

I'm not alone in my angst, but academia's too far out of reach and it's too late for me to go back to school anyway, and finally everything goes away

No-one feels bad anymore! We exist in a state of great bliss! Because deep down we know we deserve it, and it doesn't get better than this!

All recordings are a reluctant compromise; I want to sing directly to your face in a sweaty basement.
